Chapter 18 — Six Weeks

Six weeks.

That was all that remained.

Y/N stared at the wedding countdown on her phone and smiled.

Then another notification appeared.

Jungkook: Don't tell me you're looking at the countdown again.

She laughed.

Y/N: How did you know?

Jungkook: Because I know you.

Y/N: Maybe I was thinking about you.

Jungkook: You were.

Y/N: Arrogant.

Jungkook: Come downstairs.

Her heart skipped.

Y/N: Why?

Jungkook: I want to see you.

She looked out the window.

His car was waiting below.

When Y/N reached him, Jungkook was leaning against the driver's door.

His gaze immediately found hers.

He smiled.

“You came.”

“You asked.”

“I was hoping you would.”

She stopped in front of him.

“You always look at me like that.”

“Like what?”

“Like I'm the only person here.”

He stepped closer.

“Sometimes you are.”

Her cheeks warmed.

“That's unfair.”

“Why?”

“Because you know exactly what that does to me.”

His smile softened.

“I do.”

He reached for her hand.

“Come on.”

They drove to a quiet rooftop overlooking the city.

The night air was cool, and the lights below seemed endless.

Y/N walked toward the railing.

“It's beautiful.”

“I thought you'd like it.”

She turned.

“You keep bringing me to places like this.”

“Because I like seeing you happy.”

She smiled.

“You're very romantic lately.”

“Maybe I'm trying to impress my future wife.”

Her heart fluttered.

“Future wife?”

He walked closer.

“Still getting used to it?”

“A little.”

He stopped in front of her.

“I like saying it.”

“Why?”

“Because it's true.”

His hand gently found hers.

Y/N looked down at their intertwined fingers.

“Six weeks.”

“Six weeks.”

“And then?”

“Then I get to annoy you for the rest of my life.”

She laughed.

“That's your plan?”

“Absolutely.”

“Terrible plan.”

“You're still smiling.”

“Unfortunately.”

“Liar.”

She looked up.

Their faces were close.

Neither moved.

“You're staring again,” she whispered.

“I know.”

“Why?”

“Because I want to remember this.”

“Remember what?”

“This version of you.”

“What version?”

“The one who looks at me like she wants me to come closer.”

Her breath caught.

“And if I do?”

His voice dropped.

“Then I'll come closer.”

He stepped forward.

Y/N didn't move.

His hand gently touched her cheek.

“Okay?”

“Yes.”

He kissed her.

Slowly.

The first kiss was soft.

The second lasted longer.

Y/N's hands settled against his chest.

His arm wrapped around her waist.

She moved closer.

The city seemed to disappear around them.

When they finally separated, neither stepped away.

Y/N smiled.

“You're becoming very good at that.”

“At kissing you?”

She nodded.

“Definitely.”

He smiled.

“Good.”

She touched the collar of his shirt.

“Your turn.”

“My turn for what?”

“Surprising me.”

He raised an eyebrow.

“That's dangerous.”

“Why?”

“Because I might.”

She smiled.

“Maybe I want you to.”

His expression changed.

He leaned closer, brushing his lips against hers without quite kissing her.

Y/N opened her eyes.

“You're teasing me.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because you get impatient.”

“I do not.”

He smiled.

“You do.”

She pulled him closer.

“Then stop talking.”

He laughed softly before kissing her again.

This time, the kiss was longer and more intense.

Still gentle.

Still unhurried.

But filled with the attraction neither of them was pretending away anymore.

When they separated, Y/N rested her forehead against his.

“I think you're doing this on purpose.”

“I am.”

“You're impossible.”

“And you like me anyway.”

She smiled.

“Unfortunately.”

He kissed her forehead.

“You keep saying that.”

“Because you keep making me.”

They sat together on a bench.

Y/N leaned against him.

His arm rested around her shoulders.

For a while, they watched the city.

Then she whispered,

“Are you scared?”

“Of what?”

“Marriage.”

He was quiet for a moment.

“A little.”

She looked up.

“Really?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because I care about getting it right.”

Her expression softened.

“You don't have to be perfect.”

“I know.”

“You just have to be you.”

He smiled.

“That sounds easier.”

“It is.”

She took his hand.

“And I'll be me.”

“That's what I want.”

She smiled.

He lifted her hand to his lips.

“I don't want you to change.”

“I won't.”

“Promise?”

“Promise.”

He kissed her knuckles.

Then looked at her.

“And I don't want the attraction between us to disappear once we're married.”

Y/N's cheeks warmed.

“I don't think that's going to be a problem.”

He smiled.

“No?”

She shook her head.

“Not even slightly.”

His eyes lingered on hers.

“Good.”

She laughed.

“You're pleased with yourself.”

“Very.”

She leaned closer.

“Then prove it.”

He raised an eyebrow.

“Prove what?”

“That you're still as confident as you think you are.”

He smiled.

“You're challenging me?”

“Maybe.”

“There it is.”

He pulled her gently closer.

Their lips met again.

Y/N smiled against his lips.

He smiled too.

When they parted, she whispered,

“Still confident?”

“More than ever.”

She laughed.

“Annoying.”

“You love it.”

She looked at him.

“Yes.”

The answer was quiet.

But certain.

His expression softened.

“I love you too.”

Y/N froze.

He looked suddenly nervous.

“What?”

She smiled.

“Say it again.”

“I love you.”

Her eyes softened.

“I love you too.”

He pulled her into his arms.

She rested her cheek against his chest.

Six weeks suddenly didn't feel long enough.

And yet, for the first time, she didn't mind waiting.

Because whatever came next wasn't something they were rushing toward.

It was something they were choosing.

Together.
